Utter!

I have been looking for a good voice command application for Android. I needed it for my car system because that has no voice control. But When a phone is connected via Bluetooth it can use voice control if it is installed on the phone (like Siri on iPhone).

The best voice control app out there is Utter!. All info on Utter! can be found on xda developers. You can even use it offline if you install some Google speak components in the proper way. Remember that Utter! only listens to English commands. Translations are not available yet.

However Utter! can compose text for sms etc. in your native language.

How to get the best (offline) results?

Google Now

  • Update Google Now

    • Goto Language and input sytem menu and select Voice search

    • Select Primary Language English (UK) and Others your native language

    • Download selected languages in Offline speech recognition

    • Handsfree, Allow requests with device locked, Enable Bluetooth

    • Enable Bluetooth headset

Google TTS

  • Update Google tts

  • Goto Language and input sytem menu and select Text-to-speech output

  • Select Google Text-to-speech

  • Select Settings Language English (United Kingdom)

    • Download the UK voice (male or female). Additionally download TTS voice for your native language (not used yet by Utter!)

Utter!

    • Download the latest Utter! application (3.1.2B) here (direct apk link for phone)

    • Google Now is default voice command app. You can default to Utter! on first occasion

    • Start Utter!

    • Settings, untap Google Synthesised Voice

    • Settings, Try Again, Ask you to repeat

    • Settings, English Voice Engine Google, Text-to-speech, eng-usa

    • Settings, Advanced, Native Recognition Language, select your native language (for composing sms and e-mail)

Now you are ready to go.

Click and say Float Commands or select the View Command List button to start learning commands.

You can also create custom voice commands and link them to actions.

Have fun with Utter! and drive safely.
