Android devices do make backups of apps, settings, phone history and sms. Â This is stored on your Google Drive (here)
This is a separate backup, per device, from other cloud stored data like gmail, calendar and contacts.
Below you find a way to restore apps and user data that is not (yet?) possible with Android UI itself. But very useful!!!
What apps do you need to install:
Android Switch (com.google.android.apps.restore)
Shortcut Maker (rk.android.app.shortcutmaker) in case the Android Switch icon doesn't show after install
Android Switch icon doesn't show after install?
Start Shortcut Maker and goto activities, find Android Switch
Unfold the activities for Android Switch and select com.google.abdroid.apps.pixelmigrate.cloudrestore.component.CloudRestoreFlowActivity
Tap the Create Shortcut button
On your home screen you find the created Icon. Now we can start to restore any app from other devices you own and have a valid backup.
Please note that I only tested the Apps section of the restore. Didn't want to overwrite Call history, Contacts, SMS or system settings.
NOTE: use at your own risk. I have seen home screen messed up.
