On June 24th to June 26th the 31st World Hakka Conference was held in the city of Markham in Toronto, Canada.  It was attended by more than a thousand Hakka representatives from all over the world.  The conference was conducted mainly in English and in some portions they spoke Mandarin or Hakka.

This year, Edwina Lee, President, Jade Penn, Chinese Secretary and Marilyn Wong, Membership Chair attended this worldwide conference, and we met so many people.  All three of us depending on our positions went to different workshops during the daytime.  In the evening, we had dinner with all the Hakka representatives and there was entertainment.

As President, I was presented a jacket and went to a business meeting where they bid for who will be the next host.  Because of the COVID pandemic and not having had this conference for two years, they are planning to host this conference for three years in a row.  The next two years the conference will be held in China and if China opens up for United States to enter, then we will probably send representatives from our club.  The third year will be in the United States as New York has won the bid.

You can see the highlights of this conference in the link which is on this website.  Please feel free to watch it at your own convenience.
