PRESERVING CHINESE FAMILY HISTORY: ONE DELICIOUS RECIPE AT A TIME

SATURDAY, MAY 27, 2023 10:00am HST

Tsung Tsin Association Hawaii is excited to announce our next, upcoming free webinar for the month of May called Preserving Chinese Family History: One Delicious Recipe at a Time with award winning author and TTA member, Lynette Lo Tom.  In this engaging interview, Lynette will tell us how helping her mother cook for the family created a lifelong passion for cooking.  We will also learn about the importance of documenting and sharing our family recipes as a way of perpetuating and preserving our own Chinese family history.  And of course, Lynette will also be sharing some of her secrets to preparing delicious dishes for family and friends and on how you can write your own family cookbook.  A question and answer period will follow the interview.

Lynette Lo Tom has been cooking Chinese recipes for over 50 years, starting in her own family’s kitchen when her mother, a fabulous Chinese cook in her own right, asked Lynette to start cooking for the family. As a writer for the Honolulu Star-Advertiser newspaper, Lynette is also the author of the award-winning book, Back in the Day, containing over a hundred time-honored local recipes from the many different ethnic cultures living in Hawaii and A Chinese Kitchen, Traditional Recipes with an Island Twist featuring all of the delicious Chinese dishes many of us grew up with. Lynette also co-authored Yum Yum Cha—Let’s Eat Dim Sum in Hawaii with Muriel Miura, where one can learn how to recreate many of our favorite Dim Sum delicacies found in the various Dim Sum restaurants in Hawaii. In addition to Chinese, Lynette has experience with Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese, Italian, Spanish and Balinese cuisine.
