Preliminary Breath Testing Instructor School
Overview
This course will give the student the skills to teach the theory and principles of the Preliminary Breath Testing (PBT) instrument. The PBT is an important tool used in the detection of alcohol and drug-impaired subjects. This course will cover operational conditions, types of PBT instruments allowed in Maryland and legal aspects of using the device. This course is approved by, and students will receive certification through, the Office of the State Toxicologist.

Basic instructor techniques
Practice teaching
Overview of the Preliminary Breath Testing curriculum
Principles of public speaking
Guidelines for conducting PBT practical training
State Toxicologist regulations for the Preliminary Breath Test
Prerequisite: Officers requesting to attend this program MUST have successfully completed Standardized Field Sobriety Test training.
Attire, Costs and Other Requirements
Students must bring a PBT instrument, 2-inch binder and note taking materials.
Dress is professional casual or uniform of the day.
