Pedestrian Safety and Enforcement Seminar
Overview
People on foot or on bicycles make up the most vulnerable road user group, and unfortunately, pedestrian and bicycle crashes are increasing.
This course has been developed to give law enforcement officers the special traffic management knowledge and skills they need to improve pedestrian safety in their communities. Students will learn about the what, where, when, how, who and why of walking and bicycling. The Safe System Approach, how pedestrian/bicycle crashes happen, and pedestrian/bicycle laws will also be discussed.
Topics include:
Where pedestrians and bicyclists fit into traffic safety
Traffic law as it relates to the motorist, pedestrian and bicyclist
Pedestrian crosswalk enforcement operations
How pedestrian crashes occur
Courtroom preparation and testimony
Attire, Costs and Other Requirements
Dress is uniform of the day.
Students must bring note-taking materials and a highlighter.
