Sandra Kay Whitaker-Olin, 78, of Arcadia, Florida passed away November 17, 2021 at the Sarasota Memorial Hospital. She was born November 23, 1942 in Elmhurst, Illinois to Ronald and Elizabeth Sauer. Sandy was a 1960 graduate of Aurora High School in Aurora, Ohio and attended Kent State. She worked as a Medical Office Manager at several medical facilities before retiring in 2006 and moving to Arcadia 11 years ago. Sandy was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother. She was an excellent equestrian, bridge player and civic community leader. She will be remembered as an empathetic, loving, adventurous, active, a take charge, get it done person. She was a conscientious, understanding and intelligent lady. Sandy was very active in the communities in which she lived. She was a member of the Rotary Club of Arcadia, a choir member of her northern church, a member of the First Baptist Church of Arcadia, a member of the DeSoto County Education Foundation and was a charter member of the Arcadia Centennial Lions Club. Things Sandy enjoyed; horses, dogs, children, playing mahjong and traveling. If one had to choose the “essence” of Sandy, we would say, “She Served”. Sandy’s service to her family started at a very young age when her mother contracted a painful, protracted, and eventually fatal cancer. She served her whole life. Her children were lifelong beneficiaries. That love and service extended beyond her family, her consistent loving concern for children surfaced in many ways at many places throughout her life. Health and financial problems limited her reach at times, but the empathy, the helpful partner, the caring character were always present. The Rotary motto “Service above Self” illustrates why she was active locally in that civic service club. She always believed in Rotary’s Four Way Test even before she could quote it. The Four-Way Test, of the things we think, say or do; Is it the truth? Is it fair to all concerned? Will it build goodwill and better friendships? Will it be beneficial to all concerned? She is survived by her husband, John Olin of Arcadia, FL; children, Jay (Terri) Whitaker of Cincinnati, OH, Brian (Teresa) Whitaker of West Chester, OH, Arthur (Carrie) Whitaker of Avon, OH, Emily (Geoff) van de Merwe of Simpsonville, SC and Christopher (Tiffany) Olin of Twinsburg, OH; grandchildren, Christina Whitaker, Nick Whitaker, Harrison Freeman, Hayley van de Merwe, Luke van de Merwe, Heather Engstrom, Charles Tripp, Steven Tripp, Elizabeth Jordan and Katie Adams; six great grandchildren, brothers, Dick Sauer of Fountain Hills, AZ, Tim Sauer of Scottsdale, AZ and Hank Sauer of San Francisco, CA as well as 16 nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, her first husband, Jack Whitaker and her brother Alan Sauer. In lieu of flowers, donations in Sandy’s memory may be made to the DeSoto County Educational Foundation, PO Box 1903, Arcadia, FL 34265 or by visiting their website at www.desotoeducationfoundation.com A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00pm, Saturday December 4, 2021 at the Toby’s RV Park’s Community Hall, 3550 NE Highway 70, Arcadia, Florida 34266. Jodi Ann (Hassfurther) O’Neill (November 14, 1955-October 31, 2021) Loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend was from this life far too early. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her. Married to Jerry for 48 years, two children; daughter Dinah married to Roberto, and son Jerry II married to Tonya. Five grandchildren, Anthony, Roman, Noah, Hannah, and Hailey, mother; Mary Beth Hassfurther and three sisters; Renee, Amy, and Ellen she was preceded in death by her father, Roy Hassfurther one sister, Tracy, and one grandchild Austin. Jodi was a loving and caring person. She always put others before herself. She loved the simple things in life; a good book, the beach, crafts, bingo the St. Louis Cardinals, and of course shopping. Most of all she loved being with her family. Since her retirement, her dress code was a blouse, shorts, and flip-flops. As a full-time RV’er she and her husband only stayed in warm areas. Jodi was a one of a kind person with her own style and taste in life never asking for much except to be loved. In her roughest days before passing, she remained a pillar of strength to the family. She fought a very tough fight in her last days. Her soft touch, warm smile, laughter, and intellect will surely be missed by ALL who knew her. Jodi is in a better place, with no pain or suffering as we remember all the good and good times we had with you in life.
