Trip 09 - Turkey

A Turkish Delight

The Journey Begins

The four hour flight had transported us right across Europe to the very edge of Asia, to the heart of Istanbul, gateway to the east. It was late as our taxi whizzed along the empty roads to our hotel in the Aksaray area of the city. The lights from the numerous rows of ships anchored off shore could be seen clearly, indicating the commercial importance of this metropolis. After checking into our hotel and dropping the luggage off in our room we went out to explore the local area. We discovered lots of late night seedy disco bars and busy take away restaurants. Sitting outside the Umut Pub in the warm air with a pint of Efes Pils, I was contemplating what the next two weeks in Turkey had in store.
