Comares 2007
It is cold and always dark in England during November and so Mo suggested we went to her apartment in Southern Spain to get a bit of sunshine to break up the dreary winter months.
Having had such a great day out in Fuerteventura the previous year I thought I would search the net again to see if anyone was offering trail riding near to Malaga. I managed to find the
Trail Riding Spain
website and sent an email enquiring about what they had to offer. I received a reply from Roger saying that he would be glad to take me out for the day using his Honda XR250R’s. I arranged to meet him on the Wednesday of our holiday at his villa in the mountains near to the small town of Comares.
We continued and eventually came to a small village where we had a break and some refreshing drinks sat outside in the warm sunshine. I didn’t feel like November to me. We were soon back on the bikes riding through the steep hills towards the village of Casabermeja where we stopped to have a bite to eat before starting our trek back to Comares. Roger asked me how long I wanted to go on for and I suggested we started to make our way back. We followed the tracks alongside the main road before turning toward the hills and cutting across country back to Roger’s villa. It was late in the afternoon before we got back and I was now very tired and looking forward to having a relaxing beer back at Mo’s apartment.
I thanked Roger for a great day out in the hills North of Malaga it was great fun.
Using the directions provided by Roger we made our way to his villa with the picturesque town of Comares perched on top of the hillside in the background. It was a lovely warm day with clear blue skies, not bad for November. Roger asked me what experience I had of trail riding and I explained that I had been out with Back Trax the previous year. To my surprise Roger said that he was good friends with Dave and was sure that I would have a good knowledge of the basics. He suggested a route through the Malaga National Park would be best.
Mo had decided that she would go for a walk to Comares and just relax taking in the local sites of the hills. We headed off along the winding tracks that connect the isolated villages in the area. The bike was very similar to the Husqvarna TE250 I had been on before so I was soon standing on the pegs with confidence over the rough terrain. We followed the dried up river bed over the rocky ground and up into the National Park following the small narrow dirt tracks of the area. At one point we turned off the track and rode up the hillside to the top to get a look at the view. The hills stretch out in front for miles fading into the distance below the hazy blue sky. We chatted about how hard it is to go trail riding in England because of the restrictions and private land ownership.
