A couple recent announcements for opportunities in animal behavior research: the first is a postdoc on "Understanding disease and information transmission in bottlenose dolphins" (see information below), and the second is for a PhD student on "Primate and corvid socio-cognition" (see attached flyer).

Project title: Understanding disease and information transmission in

bottlenose dolphins

Project description:

With recent methodological and computational advances, network science

has become an invaluable tool for investigating vital environmental

questions. We will examine the dynamic processes of information and

disease transmission in bottlenose dolphin interaction networks.

Bottlenose dolphins are an excellent model species because they

exhibit high socio-behavioral heterogeneity and live in a large open

communities characterized by temporally and spatially variable

associations and strong long-term bonds. As a coastal species, they

are under extreme anthropogenic pressure and consequently have

undergone multiple mass mortality events in recent years. This

ecologically important species also garners considerable public

interest. We will use a 30-year longitudinal database with detailed

life history, behavioral, genetic, ecological, and social interaction

data on >1600 wild bottlenose dolphins based in Shark Bay, Australia.
