L – The sun continues to shine. Nerja really is lovely and well worth a visit. It's a real place and caters for Spanish as well as tourists. One of its star attractions is the array of tapas bars, where they still follow the tradition of offering you a free tapas when you buy a drink.
Things like : -
Iberico ham, cheese, grilled or stewed octopus, squid, snails, liver, chick pea stew (Mike's favourite), prawns, chilli, small fried fish, anchovies in vinegar, little skewers, clams etc.
Walk a couple of hundred yards past the older places you get to the more touristy bit, there is always a queue outside the pizza place and if you venture to Burriana Beach you can get a full English!
Saturday 3rd May was the 'Day of the Cross' – apparently they take a cross out of one of the churches and parade it around the town. The exact time and place did seem to vary depending on who you asked. What we did find were the decorated crosses which several of the streets make and display, along with flamenco dancing and singing and in some cases free wine and a sort of toffee. Good fun.
