L - An easy drive from Begur into France and then a short drive into the hills to stay with Lindsay and Clive in the Languedoc. Lovely house set on a hillside surrounded by forested mountains. First two days were really hot so Mike did barbecues. Then it poured with rain so we ate in.
The countryside is very rugged, steep mountains, deep gorges. Had hilarious time on Sunday watching boats manoeuvre into the 9 locks at Fonseranes. Lots of "captains" barking out instructions and not enough "navvies" to keep boats in line. Then saw coypus in the Canal du Midi - a bit like a beaver but with longer tail. Went to Pezenas Monday and got some of their famous "petits pates" - little pies filled with strange mixture of meat and sweet. Booked to eat at well known restaurant on Tuesday and it remained resolutely shut all evening. Bizarre. So we ate in new restaurant in the local spa town and it was excellent.
