L – The longest drive of the holiday was surprisingly easy then 2 nights in Cancale staying in hotel on the outskirts (thank goodness, the traffic in the centre was horrendous) and enjoying our 10 minute stroll into the village for the mass of seafood restaurants. Managed to devour a dozen oysters mid afternoon on Saturday, sat on the harbour wall with a view of the oyster beds. Had great assiette de fruits de mer first night. We could not have eaten a plateau delivered to some of the other tables. Final stop was Le Conquet, the most westerly point in France to spend 3 lovely days with Lucie (Mike's niece) and Paul in the gite they rented. Superb spot, 10 minutes walk from the village and 100 metres from a beautiful sandy beach with great rollers. Between morning runs along the coast and body boarding in the refreshing Atlantic, we just chilled out. Highlight was going to meet the day boat returning from a day's fishing and picking our own lobster to cook. Spent out 31st wedding anniversary tucking into langoustines, spider and brown crab and lobster (all cooked by Mike & Paul) - plus of course a bottle of bubbly.
Arrived in Ouistrehan for the ferry home the day before the D day events. Loads of people in 2nd WW uniforms, jeeps and motor bikes. Watched the Dakota, Spitfires and Lancaster practising their fly pasts as we waited to board the boat.
Now home safe and sound, all unpacked and laundry basket empty. Not sure what we will do this week. It will be really the first proper week when I have nothing specific to do!
