1 (c) Population and Resources
1. Describe the differences between underpopulation, overpopulation and optimum population
2. Evaluate the theories and issues of population sustainability put forward by Malthus and Boserup
3. The need for fertility policies (anti-natalist and pro-natalist)
4. Evaluate the impact of one fertility policy (either anti or pro-natalist)
Case Study: One national case study of fertility policy introduced in response to a population and resource imbalance eg China
On 31st October 2011 the world population is estimated to go beyond 7 billion people. Many people are concerned that as the global population continues to grow, that this means that the finite amount of resources around the world will eventually run out. The balance between population and resources is now meaning that people are struggling to survive - that is why so many people are poor in the LEDCs.
Is this true? Can people survive and what are the things that influence the distribution of population in an area? Do we have too many and what is the true carrying capacity of the population?
