Students should be able to:

1. Describe the main fertility and mortality measures - crude birth rate, crude death rate, total fertility rate and infant fertility rate

2. The demographic transition model and the epidemiological transistion

In recent years the speed of change within many populations around the world has started to move at a staggering speed. The population explosion in LEDCs has meant a huge number of babies being born around the world to create youthful populations.

In MEDCs, many countries have found their fertility rates and mortality rates to be decreasing to the point that in some countries there is a natural decrease.
