76th Annual Rodeo - February 2008

February 21 - 24 and 27 - March 2

The 76th annual San Angelo Rodeo will once again offer competitors a chance to gain valuable points and money as a part of the 12 city Wrangler ProRodeo Tour. The San Angelo Rodeo will run February 21-24 & 27-March 1 in the coliseum with nine performances. An estimated 1,600 contestants are expected to enter San Angelo for a chance to compete for over $450,000.00 in prize money. San Angelo ranks as a top ten largest rodeo based on purse. The PRCA rodeo includes the following events: saddle bronc riding, bare back riding, calf roping, steer wrestling, team roping, bull riding, and girls barrel racing. The first two full go rounds of the timed events will be held in the 1st Community Credit Union Spur Arena. The top 80 of those contestants will compete in the first eight rodeo performances. The performances will be on February 21,22,23,24 and 27,28,29 and March 1. The top 12 contestants from the first eight performances will then come back for the short go (finals) on Saturday, March 1 at 7:30 p.m.

Boyd Polhamus of Brenham, Texas will announce the action during the nine performances.

4-H and FFA contestants will participate in the "HEB" sponsored Calf Scramble. Contestants will attempt to catch ten calves and pull them across the finish line.

Justin sponsored "Mutton Bustin" is back and with the participation of the San Angelo Independent School District and area schools, the contestants will represent their schools proudly in each of the nine PRCA Rodeo performances. Each cowpoke will receive a belt buckle for participating with the winner receiving a pair of Justin boots.

The Junior Barrel Race, sponsored by Mr. Boots, will return for each performance. Participants will run a smaller version of the clover leaf pattern. The Junior Barrel Race is for exhibition only.

The Sonrisas Special Rodeo will be held Thursday, February 21 at 2:30 p.m.
