Even though it was only midafternoon, the sun was already appearing to set; as far below the rim of the caldera as they were, the Ravens didn't have a lot of daylight to work with. They fell back to the wall and used divine magic to build a small, stone lean-to against the cliff wall. Drumere gathered some meat from the slain raptors and collected some wild vegetables, giving Isa the chance to create a surprisingly delightful meal for them to share.
That night, however, their dreams were vivid and bizarre. Gemstones were the only commonality; visions of bear-headed men being assassinated, mangroves with strange fruits and fish with their insides on the outsides, dreamscape visitations from long fallen comrades, and an angel carrying a strange coffin into a void in the sky made for an uneasy slumber, a slumber interrupted by the arrival of two gargantuan worms. Spraying acid and attacking with their minds as well as their long tongues, the monsters were possibly the most dangers foes the Ravens had faced. They were holding their own when one of the
worms was engulfed in a wall of flashing blades – a marilith demon, her six weapons sheathed, stood on top of their stone hut, watching the fray below. After a hefty swing of Isa's sword finally finished off one of the worms and Den's feet smashed the other to the ground, however, the demoness was gone, apparently having done little more than whisper something into Lariss's ear. Gathering their gear, the party moved on before sun-up, leaving an acid-pitted stone house, its ceiling decorated with random constellations, behind.
When they reached the river, Drumere turned himself into a huge crocodile, allowing Allystrae, Isa, and Den to ride on his back as Lariss swam next to him in the shape of a shadowy manta ray.
They passed from the jungle into the grasslands, seeing odd animals, but unmolested as they traveled back into another patch of jungle. Checking their handdrawn map, Isa directed Drumere to the shore and they disembarked, heading west. The trees gave way to broken hills just as the sun began to disappear behind the rim.
They found a pile of large black stones and used more divine magic to reinforce it. As darkness descended, the stone – which resembled the desert sands of Aucturn much more than anything on Golarion – began to give off a seemingly harmless faint purple glow.
Lariss took the first watch and then it was morning; the rogue had fallen asleep and the entire group slept soundly until the late morning sun woke them.
Taking to the air, Drumere scouted the area, easily finding an cave entrance a little north of their camp. When they arrived, they found an area where the hillside had been excavated, making a half-moon shaped clearing cut by an overgrown road leading to a large cave entrance, an entrance reinforced with an Aucturian stone arch.
After a brief discussion, the party entered the cave. Even though their entry point wasn't far behind the, they were already a thousand feet below sea level, and they were attacked by a band of hairy beasts that only live in the far depths of the world. With a combination of magic, blade, and boot, they killed half of the gugs and routed the rest, leaving the passageway ahead clear.
