Recent Changes
The previous Lord Mayor, Radas Menadian, disappeared in the days following the fall of Daoine'Nyr'Shana; though his body was never found, he is presumed dead. In absence, Ardath Kyle, an appointed member of Regional Governor Willem Bearson's staff, took the reins of the city and helped guide it through the disaster and into the new year. An emergency election was held in spring and Vice Governor Kyle won in a landslide victory, resigning from her position as Vice Governor and taking her place as an elected official.
Since the fall of the Startree, the population of Augustana has changed dramatically. Over 5,000 people died in the earthquake and the wall of water that washed through the sinking parts of the city; thousands more fled during the dark days that followed. The current population is almost 8,000 souls less than before last summer, While only a fraction of the number of gnomes and halflings still call Augustana home, the dwarven population is on the rise, with entire clans moving into abandoned areas. Days after the election, half of the elven families left the city in protest after a hobgoblin mercenary company – The Blood Stones – were allowed to set up a base of operations near the docks, opening the gates to a small but thriving Goblin District. Other civilized humanoids and giants followed after the goblinoids and, leading to an influx of half-orcs and other half-breeds, realizing they're not the ugliest mug on the street any longer.
Despite the rumors of cultists that stalk the city after dark and the number of unusual "people" in Augustana (though gobliniods can purchase property, they are not considered "citizens" and have no right to vote, though here are bills being discussed that would open that opportunity), the streets of Augustana are as safe as they've ever been.
