Continuing on with their exploration of the jungle and the pyramids within it, the party made their way along the rim of the caldera. It was early in the day before they realized that they were being followed. Dengar fell behind the rest of the group, quickly spotting the creatures on their trail – HILL GIANTS!
Moving away from the drop, the Ravens found a small clearing and waited for their pursuers to catch up with them. Rather than attacking, the hill giant scout yelled something over his shoulder and then leaned against a tree. A moment later, a gray-haired giant stepped forward, followed by four ettins and another hill giant, this one being half-dragged by a pack of dire lions on leashes.
Between his sparse Common and Alystrae's Giant, they were able to understand that the leader of
the giants – Kar – wanted to confirm that had killed the were-crocodiles. Once the party agreed that, yes, that had been them, the giant gave them a bag of “treasure” (mostly junk but some
appearing quite valuable) and then went on their way. They circled the caldera – seeing strange creatures flying above it but none attacking them. As night fell, they set up camp near the edge of the caldera, only to be attacked that night by a pack of inter-dimensional hunters, three denizens of leng and a pack of yeth hounds! After a pitched battle, they killed the denizens and sent the last of the hounds
yelping off into the night. The next morning, they continued their exploration of the pyramids, finding very little until they used magic to speak to one of the long-dead victims at the bottom of the pyramid. His description of Nazzreth's lair led them to believe that they needed to go down into the caldera, possibly into hills in the north-western quarter.
Heading back towards their campsite, Drumere used his magic to help ferry the Lariss and Den down into the caldera (Isadora simply stepped off the edge and dropped softly to the ground and Alystrae used her magical shoes to flutter down). They were promptly surrounded and attacked by a pack (flock?) of hungry dinosaurs; the few that survived
wouldn't likely try to feast on two-legs again.
