Moving further into the ice caves, the Ravens met up with a dozen warriors in furs and studded leather. Northern warriors, they fought like a wolf-pack, moving in to strike and then ducking away again. Drumere's wall of stone limited their movement and the warriors fought to the last man, refusing to surrender or retreat.
There was no sign of any other humans in the caves; the party slept in the main chamber, many of them cuddling with the druid-turned-polar-bear for warmth. The next morning, they were found by a group of animalistic yeti, apparent slaves (pets?) of the frost giants. After showing that they weren't a threat, the yeti left them alone, giving them the opportunity to re-search the caves, to no avail.
They left the caves through a secondary tunnel that led further down the mountain. There was still no sign of any humanoid presence, only the giants. Making their way back to the site of the sundered wagon where they had arrived, they climbed down the ravine to examine the detritus, realizing that the wagon had been left here for possibly years, not weeks; the only clue they found was a few pieces of parchment, the writing long faded but a wax seal of a city to the northeast still legible.
Considering that the caravan in question was supposed to have been traveling from the west, the Ravens suspected they had been set up.
Their wizardly contact Rembe arrived on time, shocked at their apparent paranoia when he found himself surrounded by drawn blades. He teleported the party back to Augustana and then left them with the rescue attempt's sponsor, Kimmel.
He professed his confusion over the party's findings and led them back up to this office, where they were ambushed by two northlanders: Surgard, erstwhile First Mate of Grimmfaer Bjornson, the viking pirate who had led a fleet against Augustana during The Summer of Trouble, and Cha'kree, the surviving bugbear sister to Bearson's bodyguard.
Though Lariss made short work of the pirate, the bugbear barbarian fought well, going toe to toe with Isa and almost killing Lariss before finally succumbing to their blows.
Drawn by Kimmel's screams, the town guards arrived in short order but arrested the duplicitous shopkeeper, questioning him while Sheriff Tofur spoke to the Guard.
It seemed that Surgard and Cha'kree had been hiding within the city limits for the last year, waiting for an opportunity to exact vengeance on the Raven Company, using Kimmel to send them off to an ambush.
Dismissed by the authorities, the Raven Company returned to their barracks, bloody but triumphant.
