While the Thune regrouped and their new leader decided what to do (and whether or not to kill the hostages), the party circled around and did some recon. At one point they noticed a messenger bird heading south, probably the Thune reporting the situation to their main base.
Some scouting by the sprite showed that the hostages were being held inside the wall around the pyramid. They weren't restrained but there were guards watching them from the stairs to the pyramid.
They arranged a rescue over the wall. And managed to get everyone out before the Thune noticed the escape.
On foot and with little gear, the party headed north into the desert, followed by some Thune trackers.
The party had a cold night, huddled together for warmth.
After their cold, uncomfortable night, the party headed north, on foot.
Late morning they spotted a large pillar of smoke to the south.
At lunchtime the party reached the oasis they had stayed at almost a tenday ago. There were no other tracks at the oasis - no-one else had visited it since the party was last here.
After several days of travel (and uncomfortable nights) the party reached the source of the pillar of smoke - a huge bonfire of camel bodies.
There were two sets of tracks. One leading northwest, to the pyramid. One leading northeast.
The party followed the northeast ones. There was no way they were going back to the pyramid.
The party reached an oasis. From here, the tracks led off towards the pyramid.
The party headed north. There was no way they were going back to the pyramid.
