Q: During which step do you give an explicit explanation of the grammar rule?

A: Never! You should do your best to never give students a direct explanation of the grammar rule. Instead, give them as much guided assistance as necessary to allow them to investigate the patterns for themselves. In rare circumstances, though, you may be required to help them by giving a brief explanation of the rule. However, this is reserved only for occasions when the students cannot find the pattern on their own, even with large amounts of assistance from you.
