STEP 2: Attention

Once you have successfully completed the Presentation phase, it is now time to bring the students' attention to the passé composé. Hopefully, all the students will have "picked it up" while listening to the story, but this is the time for you to be sure that everyone's attention has been focused on the grammar point. You can easily and quickly do this by asking the class the following questions. Remember: your goal is to allow the students to discover the grammar on their own. Try to only guide them to see the pattern, instead of just telling them how the rule works. In the second slide, you will see some of the typed script from the story. This can be used to allow the students to see the language and reflect upon it while attempting to find the pattern. This is not the stage where students actually start to form the grammar point, but instead, just focus on it and notice some of the regularities. After reviewing these slides, you can move on to Step 3: Co-Construction by clicking on the link at the bottom of this page.
