ABOUT THE BOOK: Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats is a collection of whimsical poems by T. S. Eliot. The poems were written during the 1930s and included by Eliot, under his assumed name "Old Possum," in letters to his godchildren. The best-known musical adaptation of the poems is the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical Cats. This musical premiered in London's West End in 1981 and on Broadway in 1982, and went on to become the longest-running Broadway show in history. -Wikipedia
Keith, Ty and Summer at last year's Beauty and the Beast rehearsal.
"I do this job year after year because I am always astounded by the kids. The process is just incredible, watching the kids grow from the auditions to the applause after the first show
is just amazing. "
-Keith
THURSDAY JULY 10 / WEEK #5
Once the hard work of defining a character and finding their particular walk is accomplished it is amazing how fast you can progress through the different scenes of a play. These young performers have really worked hard to create believable cats, and now we can put them in Thai Cat Opera, Skimbleshanks Railway Station and even near the Heavy-Side Layer. You just have to see this show to believe it. Now all we need is make-up and tails.

THURSDAY JULY 3/ WEEK #4
Make-up is really a new adventure for CAST, and it is so important in this show we have started working on it early to ensure it looks at great as our student performers. Did you know we used actual cats as models for the designs on each and every actor in the show? And each student is learning to put their own make up on over the next two weeks. Rest up and have a safe 4th of July everyone!
SUMMER POWELL (Assistant Choreographer) is a graduate of the University of Illinois at Chicago earning her B.A. in performing arts. Her passion for performing arts has led her to be featured in commercials for Walgreens, films like Transformers 3 and Stranger than Fiction, voice-overs for Coca-Cola, McDonalds and DeVry and numerous theatrical appearances. Summer is thrilled to be a newbie to CAST and working with such talented children.
FRIDAY JUNE 27 / WEEK #3
It is fun to look at the original poems which inspired Andrew Lloyd Webber to write the musical of CATS because you can almost hear the music in the verse as you read it off the page. We continue to work this week on making the words spoken or sung from the stage sound the way they do the first time you read and really understand them. We also spent a lot of time perfecting our Parent's Day presentation. And somehow in the midst of all that work, we got most of ACT ONE done at the same time. The pieces are coming together...
FRIDAY JUNE 20 / WEEK #2
The opening number consumed our whole week, but as you can see from the video above - it is one of the most important sections of the show. What fun to roll around on the actual platforms of our very own junkyard!
