The CREW is off to a great start! All the lumber has been loaded in and scenery storage areas re-organized. We even have most of the platforming for both shows up and being used by actors. Check out these designs we have been working on this summer.
Some things we need from home:
*Fake fur (fabric, wigs, leg warmers) only things you don't want back again please.
*Oversize toys - gigantic bottle shaped piggy banks, gigantic shoe boxes.
*Fake Evergreens - anything green and over 5 feet tall for the forest of Narnia.
*Help with Make-up/Hair - let us know if you might like to learn how to transform students into animals.
To help out with any of these, please contact Kathy Simon at 524-7848 or ksimon@op97.org.
Designers use Sketch Up to map out where lighting will be hung in the Julian Commons for The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe.
In order to construct a ramp that fills the Julian Auditorium stage for CATS, the perfect measurements can be obtained by a 3-D modeling program.

CREW COUNSELOR
These are the folks who spend the afternoon with the CAST CREW
Isabel Firpo will be a senior at Syracuse University in the fall, majoring in Industrial and Interaction Design. This is her second summer as a counselor at CAST, and has previously worked at YMCA Camp Pinewood where she mastered skills such as capture the flag and dodgeball. She fondly remembers her own CAST days in middle school, including performances in Anything Goes and Rhinoceros, and is excited to be working with such great kids in this rewarding theater program.
Naomi Johnson was a star on the CAST Crew when she was a student at Julian…and she is a pretty good dancer too! Now at OPRFHS she enjoys spending her time perfecting her scenic painting technique and when not at school she works in the concession stand at Lindberg Park. She will always be CAST’s most famous stage left deck chief.
Hannah Legatzke is happy to be working for CAST again as a crew counselor this summer. She has especially enjoyed playing lively games of Frog Mafia with the kids. This fall, Hannah will be a sophomore at the University of Notre Dame where she is majoring in Anthropology and Environmental Science.
Audrey Schoen is thrilled to be back with CAST for the first time since middle school! She is currently a sophomore attending Marquette University and majoring in elementary education. Working with the kids of CAST this summer has not only been a great joy for her, but also a reaffirmation of her career choice. She hopes you enjoy the show as much as she's enjoyed helping to make it happen!
Kelsey Thrush is a golden apple scholar. She is helping the crew with learning design and proportion. She is a junior art major endorsed in mathematics at Eastern Illinois University. This is her first time being able to help out children in this environment. She has taught ADL and 6th gr reading for the previous two summers. Her hobbies include playing different kinds of sports, creating art, and listening to any type of music she can sing to. She hopes to become an art teacher in the countryside similar to where she grew up, but a teaching job anywhere would be AMAZING!
Alberto Vargas is a Junior at the University of Illinois studying Music Education and Bilingual Education. This is his first summer involved in the Golden Apple program, and he is very excited to be learning from such amazing teachers and working with students.
Jonah Zimmermann is a crew counselor at CAST. Although he has spent many years in theatre, this is his first time being involved in CAST productions. He is immensely grateful for the opportunity to work with such awesome kids!
