I have presented at tertiary level to Masters’ students about practical implications for research and at Bachelor level for teacher trainees.
I have trained numerous trainee teachers and have also worked for AUT as a tutor for student teachers in Religious Education.
I have experience with NCEA at a national level and taught in secondary schools for over 10 years.
My specialist teaching subjects are Classical Studies, English, Social Studies and Art History. I have also taught Health and Religious Education.
I have been head of Foundation English, been on the pastoral care team, as well as Teacher in Charge of Classical Studies. This is addition to setting up and running two GaTE Programmes at large Auckland Secondary Schools (one Decile 4 and one Decile 10).
In 2006, 2008 and 2012, I organised and ran three overseas trips to France and Italy with groups ranging from 10 to 20.
I have taught Year 7 and 8 students as well as run GaTE programmes for them.
Through establishing GaTE programmes, I have worked with teachers to integrate their curriculum as well as provide authentic classroom experiences based on identified needs of the students.
In my work with Te Toi Tupu, I have worked mostly with primary schools to develop comprehensive GaTE programmes that meet the needs of their diverse learners.
I taught English language and reading to primary students in Kaohsiung, Taiwan and have worked with composite and contributing primaries on the New Zealand Curriculum over the past four years.
I was assistant director of an English language school in Kaohsiung, Taiwan (age 3-14). My responsibilities included curriculum design and teacher training. I also taught English to early childhood students (age 3-5).
Through my Te Toi Tupu work, I have worked with early childhood centres to identify gifted children before entering school and to ensure smooth transitions for these learners. I work with teachers of Year 1-2 on providing exciting, challenging and authentic learning experiences for new entrants
"I always find I receive great practical advice during these meetings.
Brooke is very patient and clear with ideas on how we can help our target students."
