They Don't Make Them Like They Used To - Ronnie Masliansky
We were at a get-together with Stewie, Hershel Berger and Joel. Joel jumped onto Hershel’s back. Hershel was yelling "get off, get off". Both Hershel and Joel collapsed onto the couch/bed and the couch/bed collapsed.
Broken Glasses - Sheryl Merzel
Stewart and Marsha bought us a bunch of beautiful glasses and brought them over before Shabbat. We used them that Shabbat when we had them over for a meal. Stewie got so animated that he banged one of the glasses down on the table, breaking it. He was so embarrassed.
Cholent - Sheryl Merzel
The first time we invited Marsha and Stewart over for a Shabbat meal, I was so nervous. I wanted to impress them very much so I made an especially delicious cholent. When I went to serve it Shabbat afternoon, to my horror, I realized that the crock pot had broken before Shabbat had even started, and it was hardly even cooked! Stewart never let me live this story down.
Was That Today? - Sam Lipshitz
We had invited Stewart and Marsha over to our house for Shabbat, along with the Bibers. Stewie and Marsha never showed up. They had totally forgot about it - and are still embarrassed to this day.
Is There a Story Here - Gail Turk
Our first of many memories is our loving landlord when we came back from Scranton. Those days I was not as free as I am now - maybe we'll come back, we could really enjoy the "red carpet" treatment now. You were the Host with the Most. Nobody tells a story like Stu, like the time Moshe went downtown with Marsha and I and he had a sudden craving for lifesavers. You know the rest. How could I forget the huge snowstorm and I was working uptown. The plows could barely get through but Stewart's crew came to my rescue.
On a Roll - Marsha Sheinfeld
One time when Stewart was on a low-carbohydrate diet we went out to eat with some friends. He had decided that he would splurge just this one time, so he took a roll and buttered it. Amidst the conversation, he forgot about the roll he had on his plate, and took another roll and buttered it - he was so caught up in the fact that he was going to splurge and eat a roll that he had forgotten that he already had one ready to go!
Throw X From the Bima - Yaakov Sheinfeld
During the Chagim 1990, Adas Yeshurun decided to get rid of all shtenders. A certain person (let's call him Mr. X) was very upset because he sat in the front row and had no where to put his Siddur as he davened. So he decided to make the bimah his new shtender. As the Chazzan davened at the amud, Mr. X davened standing in the center of the bimah. Obviously, this angered members of the shul, and the rabbi was asked to diffuse the situation. The rabbi talked to Mr. X, but to no avail. By the middle of Sukkot, as Mr. X continued to daven on the bimah, Abba decided he had had enough. Abba approached the rabbi and told him that if Mr. X did not get off the bimah, he would be "removed". As Mussaf started, Mr. X left his seat and approached the bimah. When he got to the bimah, he found Abba and Walter Richtman standing in his way. Mr. X managed to squeeze past them onto the bimah, so Abba and Walter followed him onto the bimah, lifted him up, and heaved him from the bimah (amid muted applause from the congregants).
