South St. Paul Secondary School's Winter One Act Plays

Mystery. Surprise. Suspense. Come see South St. Paul Secondary School's take on the kinds of modern sci-fi/fantasy stories that made TV shows like The Twilight Zone and Outer Limits famous. The one act play festival will feature Jr. High and Sr. High One act plays, student-directed plays, and the SSPHS 2012 entry into the Minnesota State High School League's One Act Play Competition.

Junior High One Acts (open to grades 7-9):

“The Babysitter”

(5 F, 5 total)

Ghost seeks revenge for the death of her baby from 4 unsuspecting teenagers.

“The Talking Shopping Cart”

(1F, 4E, 5 total)

The new talking shopping cart at the grocery store gets out of control.

Student Directed One Acts (open to grades 7-12):

“The Boys at I-Hop”

(1F, 2M, 3 total)

Dracula and the Wolfman meet for coffee at their local I-Hop; ditzy waitress has no clue what’s going on (or does she?).

“Marriage After Death”

(2 F, 1M, 3 total)

A man buried between his two wives has to spend eternity listening to them compare notes.

“This Dream”

(1F, 1M, 2E, plus extras, 4+ total)

Students (and their teacher) relive their test anxiety dreams, which all mysteriously intersect each others' dreams.

“The Question"

(1M, 4E, 5 total)

Aliens abduct a human in order to ask her an important question.

Competition Play (open to grades 7-12):

“The Veldt”

(2F, 2M, 2E, 6 total) - A story and script from Ray Bradbury, the author of Fahrenheit 451, Dandelion Wine, and The Martian Chronicles. George and Lydia Hadley have installed a playroom for their children which conjures up whatever the children desire. Guess who the lions eat at the end of the play....
