Two Events! UCSB Alumni Studio Showing & SBCC Spring Concert
UCSB Dance Department Reunion: Alumni/Student Discussions & Alumni Studio Showing
Misa collaborated with Christopher Pilafian, Dara Ackerman, and Michele Bondra O'Neill to organize the second UCSB Dance Alumni Reunion. Can y0u say exhausting? What a HUGE undertaking. Tracking down alumni on google, facebook, through other alumni, putting up a website, and on, and on.... We came to find out that gathering dancers is much more challenging than herding cats! Misa and Dara decided to take a break for a year and open it up to other alumni to take on the organizing. Jen Bourne Short has offered to take the lead as long as Misa will agree to coach her through the process (which she has.)
The group expanded the vision reaching out to a broader range of years and adding several new components to UCSB Dance Department reunions. The group implemented alumni/student discussions as well as a first ever alumni studio showing. On the program were works by: Beth Megill, Kerstin Stuart, Smudges, Sam Mitchell, Cybil Gilberton, Misa Kelly, Dara Ackerman & Kim Tregea Davis.
The work proved to be truly worth it. Alice Condodina summed it up by saying "it is like being in heaven." Everyone felt the same way!
SBCC Spring Concert: Behind the Words
Misa was invited by Pamela Lappen to participate as a guest artist on SBCC's Spring concert. What a fabulous experience. She especially enjoyed shooting pics from the wings! The above video is a composite Misa made of some of the images. Wohooo! We'll be doing the concert again next year. This time Misa will be setting a piece on SBCC students. Her auditions are September 9th. We can't wait! Stephen is serving as a choreographic assistant and will undoubtedly become an inspired co-creator. Justine Sutton wrote a WONDERFUL review of the event called Dancing Out Loud. Have a read! It will provide an inspired take on the evening.
