Dance Day
Melissa, Misa, Maritza & Patrick had at it with a 2 hour Performance Art session in front of the Santa Barbara Museum of Modern Art as a part of the Santa Barbara Dance Alliance's Dance Day working with slowing down time, wrapping and unwrapping expressing dance as a form of spiritual practice. During one twenty minute section passersby were invited to tuck a flower in the tulle of a dancer as she slowly wrapped and to whisper a wish. Lucky Misa doing the wrapping. It was the most glorious experience to have people engage and tuck in carnations, ranunculus, and gerber daisies into her folds as she slowly spiraled into the cloth. The whispered wishes and prayers and blessings proved to create one of the most profound things Misa ever experienced. The highlight was a trio of kids tucking flowers saying "look - we are making her pretty!"Keigwin & COOur fearless community leader Dianne Vapnek, once again, made it happen in a really big way with her second year of DANCEWORKS at the Lobero Theater bringing Larry Keigwin and his company to Santa Barbara. In addition to carving out some new work Larry worked with the community and set a really fun work on 50 of us locals: all shapes, sizes, and ages. It was tight, but Misa MADE the time to engage and get involved.
Check out the 1:40 mark in the below YouTube video of the performance of the fruits of all of our playful labor: Bolero Santa Barbara.
