We are in the thick of it amidst all of the performing, teaching, preparing for the SB-ADaPT, working on the Dance S.O.S. Center project...in the thick of it!
Carla & Misa
Carla Minckler and Misa have been saying hello for a number of years now as Misa has passed by her business "Minckler's Frame" on her way to and from her bread and butter gig. Misa was awestruck by the dynamism of Carla's movement and expression as she spoke and suspected she was a dancer. Lo and behold she turned out to be a fellow "Cal Artian" with a like MFA in dance. To make a VERY long story short Carla is now a member of SonneBlauma Danscz Theatre and she and Misa are currently ensconced in a creative project that seems to have a mind of its own. They will be taking work to share with the L.A. community on November 1st to the Electric Lodge in Venice Beach as a part of their marvelous and magical MAX10 series. It is a long term sort of relationship with the two intending to grow old together as artists so expect a lot of richness to come not only in the here and now but for many years to come!
Stephen & Misa
Well, husband and wife, lover and friend for going on near two decades, and they are beginning to fuse sensibilities in more obvious ways. Where once Stephen focused mostly on his music he is now shifting focus to include an ample dose of dance taking a more active role in the choreographic part of the company. In 2010 he's expanded his role of co-conspirator to co-artistic director which really translates into doing more of the gnitty gritty work that keeps a company alive, active, and thriving. In 2010 Stephen did an awesome job of getting his choreographic work out there with work shown at our January Studio Showing, at the MAX10 series at Venice Beach, and at the SpectorDance Choreographic Showcase. Bravo Beloved! Job well done!!! Presently he and Misa are hard at work in the studio with Stephen setting a new solo on Misa. Misa indicates (ahhhh) that she never realized just HOW much he loved her until he danced in his choreography. Such bliss, such joy! Come catch some of it when the fruition of their hard arse labor ripens on the vine! We'll keep you posted with regards to the when and where. If you can't wait for the finished project you are always welcome to drop on by and sample the process. The chunk of time we've set aside for this project is Saturdays from 5:00 - 6:30 at the Montecito School of Ballet.
Misa just Misa
Taking a serious time out to rethink it all. Having spent the past five years passing on information she's derived from over 150 arts educators to colleagues and friends she's taking a serious time out to simply be still with the process with a voracious process to birth something entirely new. Can you say take 1/2 hour to roll your cranium from left to right and center again? Committing with entire heart and soul to sailing into unchartered waters, climbing unknown peaks, and diving into inexplicable depths in search of something new, different, vivacious & vibrant. What a luxurious soul massage. Entrenched in this process choreographic work is emerging. It seems as if life is saying we want a one woman show to happen. Watch out world! Scary . . . Misa is doing it to it . . .
Santa Barbara City College
Misa is returning to her roots and her beloved is coming along for the ride. She has been invited to set a work on the students there with auditions slated for September 9th at 6:30 pm at SBCC. We d0n't want to say ANYTHING about it just yet because sometimes when you talk about it in the arts, it doesn't happen. The mere speaking of it seems to take the energy away.
Repertory
How can you get away from it? Works of art alive wanting to be kept alive? Melissa and Misa will be having at it with Grit and Under Yes Certain Circumstances. Delightful works really wanting to touch more lives.
