NECTAR: Sex & the Body – Misa performed Ranunculus

Cybil Gilbertson produced her third installment of her NECTAR project and it was a great joy to be a continued part of this project.  Good old Hughes!  Advocating from wherever one resides in the afterlife to make sure his dance gets danced a lot Misa had opportunity to perform Ranunculus again donning a different costume appropriate for the evening.  It was an inspired evening which took us all somewhere new and undoubtedly did the community a world of good with some not so conservative works expressing things that have wanted to be expressed for a long time.  With that said, it felt good to feel the breeze blow where it normally doesn’t blow in dancing places and spaces.   It was clear by the charge of inspiration in the air that we all hit our mark with regard to helping make this world a better place to be by pressing against edges that ought and should be pressed against.

2010 was our first year of putting together a private showing for our patrons as a way of giving a special thanks to those that help make our dreams come true through their kind and generous patronage.  We hope to make this an annual event!

Master Class at Santa Barbara City College

Company members Kaita Lepore and Melissa Block assisted Misa in leading a master class at Santa Barbara City College on a sunny Saturday morning and on into the early afternoon.  It was especially poignant for Misa in that this was the place that her career as a dancer started with her first ballet class under the tutelage of Kay Fulton.  There was such wonderment to think that she was returning to teach at the place where it all begun, and to realize how far she had come with regards to mastering the body as a medium of artistic expression.  Big shout out and thank you to Pamela Lappen for having us and hugs of appreciation to the oddles of eager students that made that day a 2010 highlight.
