5x5x5 Series Curated by John White at the Sylvia White Gallery in Ventura
A brand new venue! John White invited Misa & Justine Sutton to be a part of his Performance Art Series at his wife Sylvia’s gallery in Ventura. One thing concluded was that Ventura has an awesome arts community. Appreciative, supportive, and hungry for the outrageous and edgy. While Justine performed a fun burlesque piece in the storefront window Misa shared her work in the inner gallery defining the “edges” of her performance space with duct tape arrows, china plates, silverware & wine glasses gleaned from the gallery cupboards. Is she ever glad she did that. The place was packed and if she hadn’t defined a space for herself she certainly would have been performing in a very, very, very, very small space (can we say 1 square foot.) The highlight of the evening was some serious playtime with Misa’s brother David (one of the most gifted photographers we know) and an impromptu photo shoot in Robert Cantalucci’s installation. Can’t wait to go back!

We had a great time! We had no idea that 150 kids would turn up! Don’t you just love synchronistic events?
The intent was to embody the precept that the act of dance making is as normal, everyday and natural as breathing.
The quality has a "home video" sort of feel to it which which we hope punctuates this notion.
Misa had an "aha" sort of moment when watching the footage and the juxtaposition of the dancers and kids at play which was really one and the same. Dancers keep the sacred connection to kids dancing alive. They hold the space in "adult" realms helping to keep that door open for all adults energetically, to help facilitate the process of them re-remembering dance if they so choose.
Dance S.O.S. Center
Wanting NO ONE to have to go through what she had to go through figuring out how to build a dance company Misa decided to create a FREE online resource for the greater community. Check it out!
The highlight so far has been an inspiring dialog with Robby Barnett of Pilobolus. He spoke about Pilobolus' journey to the top & we've put this up on the site as an example of what it entails to get to the top.
