From the email I sent out Sunday morning:-
Well, we had an interesting day on Kilspindie. The forecast wind direction was spot on (Easterly) but the strength was well below the predicted 7-10mph.
We made a start about 10:45 when the wind was holding around 3-4m/s and flew two rounds before we had to stop when the wind dropped well below 3m/s for more than 30 minutes. After a break when Craig’s Libelle got some abuse we started once more about midday only for a repeat performance to occur with the wind and the lift again disappearing so we stopped for lunch. This gave Mike the opportunity to dash back to the car for his Blaster for some light-lift fun.
Around 1:15 we got going once more only to have issues with the buzzer on B working erratically. So we stopped flying once again but after some fault tracing work found a broken wire right at the buzzer button connection and managed a temporary fix. I suspect we need to replace the buzzer cables which are getting hard as the plastic insulation ages.
We got going again in earnest and flew 6 rounds in light air before we had to give up once more when the wind died away and stayed that way!
The lift was always light but Dave Watson seemed to have the measure of it and flew consistently well all day to win. Mike had a pretty good day too with his Precision and was runner up but was closely followed by Ewan with his Pitbull. George flew really long laps with his FS3 to finish in 4th place. Craig steadily improved his times flying his Vikos and was looking confident by the end of the competition. It was good to see him back on the slope. Robert and his Stinger suffered with the variable conditions and got more than his fair share of light lift. It was also great to see Doug on the hill although he didn’t take part in the competition this time.
Despite the light air and technical difficulties we had a great day on the hill. A fine end to the Scottish F3F Summer league.
David Watson 4997.89 1
Mike McCracken 4683.54 2
Ewan Maxwell 4631.34 3
George Young 4428.92 4
Craig Maxwell 4286.02 5
Robert Carson 4179.12 6
FTD Dave Watson 55.32
Thanks to all today for helping set-up the course and assisting me CD the day.
Our next competition will be the first of the Winter League. Brrrrr! Probably Saturday 19th November but this will need confirming.
