Hi All

It turned out nice today on Pole Hill, pretty much as anticipated but colder!

The wind was fairly steady starting at around 7ms and building a bit through the day. The air was pretty variable mid you with a good ‘par’ time around the 50s mark, you needed a bit of good air to get into the 40’s. We were flying two rounds with a crow through and it was very rare to get two good times.

I had a good start with a 45 in round 1 as did Mike with a 48, the other times both being 53’s. It was only Ewan and myself that went sub 50 in rounds 3 & 4 and then we stopped for lunch. Kevin had a bit more luck after lunch and started with a nice 45 / 42 combo, maybe it was the dairlylea dunkers? Ewan claimed FTD in round 6 with a very nicely flown 40.37 and Mike flew 43/47, unfortunately my luck deserted me at lunch time!

Mike flew another good pair 47/46 pair in rounds 7 & 8 to cement his claim on the lead against my 49/50. George went sub 50 in round 9 to show he hasn’t forgotten what its all about and I managed 4 good legs in round 10 to win the round with a 45.98. But it wasn’t enough against Mike’s 49/49 pairing and he claimed a decisive win! Also notable in the last pair of rounds were Cole’s 67.28, which was well flown, Ian’s near sub-50 in round 10 and Robert’s best time of the day in round 9.

The results:

1 Mike McCracken 8620.94 1000.00

2 Peter Gunning 8483.93 984.10

3 Kevin Newton 8315.49 964.56

4 Ewan Maxwell 8105.99 940.26

5 Ian Simpson 7711.20 894.47

6 George Young 7707.97 894.09

7 Robert Carson 7297.84 846.52

8 Cole Simpson 5370.77 622.99

FTD Ewan Maxwell 40.37 round 6

Well done Mike, that has been quite a while coming, but it has been coming! Well flown that man.

I spoke to Joel on the way home to get the low down on the action in wales, where 3 x sub-30’s were flown but only two rounds. Joel got a reflight in round 1 and crashed a model landing in massive rotor. Flew a 38 second run and crashed a 2nd model on landing! I think 7 of 9 pilots crashed on landing after round 1. With a similar result after round 2, and some people deciding not to fly due to the carnage, only 2 people had models to fly in round 3 and they called it off. Superb on the front but lethal in the LZ!!!

So, as there was only one crash for us today, I think we can all be happy!

I will get the summer league dates (that George proposed ages ago) confirmed shortly.

All the best

Peter
