GET TO KNOW :
JOHN POZENEL
PERSONAL INFO:
NAME: John Pozenel A.K.A. Poz
WWBA TEAM: Saginaw Wizards
YEARS IN WWBA: second season
HOW OLD ARE YOU? 48
FAMILY MEMBERS: Wife Heather and daughters Olivia (15), Madeline (14) and Sophia (14).
LINE OF WORK: Work in assessing for the City of Saginaw after spending more than 20 years in journalism as a sportswriter, copy editor and page designer.
HOBBIES: Golf, lounging in my pool, traveling with the family.
FAVORITE BASEBALL TEAM & WHY Detroit Tigers because they are my home team.
FAVORITE BASEBALL PLAYER & WHY: Alan Trammell for leading the Tigers to the World Series in 1984 and deserving the AL MVP in 1987 - George Bell winning was a disgrace … haha
FAVORITE BASEBALL MEMORY: Kirk Gibson’s home run off Goose Gossage in the 1984 World Series.
1ST MLB GAME YOU ATTENDED & WHEN: Honestly don’t recall, but I know it was a Tigers game and I was probably 6 or 7.
HOW DID YOU GET INTO THE WWBA? Dave Shane would often ask my advice when we worked together. I was the architect for a couple of his trades and helped him rate players for the drafts. I told him I’d like to join if there was an opening. Last year one came about and I was able to land my franchise.
WHAT OTHER LEAGUES DO YOU PLAY IN
I play in a face-to-face Strat-o-Matic baseball league that has been in existence for more than 40 years - I’ve played for maybe 15 of the years. It’s called the Ice Baseball League because many of the original teams were owned by Saginaw Gears (International Hockey League) players. A lot of NHL players came through Saginaw and some have rolled dice in the league.
WHAT YOU LIKE /DISLIKE ABOUT DMB
I like the fact that we can play at our own pace. I tend to quick play large portions of my games and manage down the stretch of games. I don’t particularly care for the computer manager settings. They seem very limited, and yet they still are seemingly not followed by the computer.
OTHER PRO SPORTS YOU ENJOY WATCHING
My favorite sports to watch are soccer, baseball, football and hockey.
YOUR FAVORITE MOVIE One that I am guessing not many of you have seen – “True Romance.” Amazing cast in case you want to check it out.
THE TYPE OF MUSIC DO YOU LIKE: 90s Alternative and grunge - are these considered oldies now?
THE BEST BOOK YOU EVER READ: I’m not a reader and never have been. I did most of my reading at work and rarely felt compelled to crack a book when I got home. I’ll go with Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.
ANY PERSON LIVING OR DEAD YOU WOULD LIKE TO MEET & WHY?: Anthony Bourdain. Although he was a troubled person, he was an amazing chef and storyteller. You cannot go wrong with great food and great stories.
YOUR WORDS TO LIVE BY
Life is too short to be unhappy.
