It turned out that there was no room for the radiator either...
I kept looking for a new home for the radiator but no luck...Only place available was the outside the engine bay or on top of the bonnet....
I seem to be missing some photos but here is what happened.
A section of the front bumper was cut off to make a room for the radiator and then an external grill thing was constructed out of 70 mm box section steel and some scrap steel I bought for some other job that was left over...
Also, since there was no viscous fan the cooling was taken care of by a 16 inch electric fan triggered by a thermostat.
It was starting to look like some kind of farm equipment I thought to myself...
Since the radiator is now happily strapped to the outside of the vehicle, I started to do some work on the interior...
The first problem to be tackled was to bring the shift lever within reach from the driver's seat...I couldn't really expect a passenger to change the gears for me so something mechanical had to be done.
So while I was poking around for suitable scraps to extend the shift lever I came across an old front axle off the old gearbox that went ka-put 3 years ago...and 2 used shock absorbers from my wife's car....
and it looks like this...
2 shock absorbers welded back to back used as a link between the control lever and the actual gear lever on the gear box.
Note the universal joint bolted to the floor?
