View of the trasmission... on a trolley jack. In process of getting the alignment right...
The plan is to use front half of the Transit Prop Shaft and match it with the Mitsubishi shaft which fits into the Mitsubishi Diff.
The left 2 are the Ford shafts and the one on the right is the Mitsubishi shaft. Note the difference in length.
Since the gearbox is to be installed is much shorter and worse yet since the vehicle was originaly a 4WD, there is no where for the centre bearing to go on as the transfer case made up for the extra distance.
Here I found a shop (as far as I know there are only 2 such shops in this country) who can alter shafts about 1.5hr away form my house.
Above is the picture of one of the shop owner (Tom) making a first cut on my shaft. Separating the Transit spline yoke form the transit rear shaft.
By the way, if you ever want to adjust length of a shaft, do not ever try to cut it in the middle and join them together, It will never work. For one thing it will never be straight. If it is not straight, it will not balance no matter what...just bring it to a specialist shop with proper equipment with your measurements and let them do the cutting and welding...They don't use a lathe for nothing.
This fella who thought he could cut a shaft in the middle ended up buying a whole new shaft...all he had to do was to take some measurements and bring it in...
I just saw it in the shop so I thought I might share it...
