Sometimes a moment comes along here at TBI Seizure Alert and Recovery GIANTS that we get a chance to make a difference in the life of a little one at risk. This is Lakota's story. Lakota started in North Central Missouri where he was living with a young female Pyrenees. It became quickly obvious to his handler that she was unable to handle raising 2 Pyrenees so she chose to contact Great Pyrenees Rescue of Missouri and asked for assistance. This is where we came in. Sometimes we not only train service dogs but we foster as well. This was the story for Lakota who needed a foster family. He was only 14 weeks old. With the help of several volunteers, Lakota was able to be transferred to us as his foster parents. We drove to Kansas City and saw that Lakota was going to need a lot of TLC. We immediately got home and got to work on helping him recover from neglect. He was underweight and covered in fleas and ticks. It took 2 bathes and lots of good nutrition but Lakota was quickly on the road to recovery. Our vets at North Topeka Animal Clinic saw him as well and mentioned that with continued good nutrition and some vaccines that Lakota would be a healthy puppy. We socialized him with our Pyrenees Service Dogs and our Great Dane Service Dogs. Alexander especially took a special liking to Lakota. I like to think its because they are both badger marked Pyrenees. Lakota quickly became part of the family, loved his foster home and flourished. Before we knew it a family in Nebraska expressed interest in our "little one" and Lakota began the road to finding his forever home. After a visit with his new family and some basic obedience training for about a month, Lakota received his forever home and is doing well in his new environment. We miss our "little one" and his 5 am wake up potty calls and his funny moments. We all agree one of the best Pyrenees puppies we've had and we mentioned to his new family that he would make a great therapy dog candidate and of course our services would be free whenever and however they needed it for Lakota. We are thrilled for such a wonderful story for such a sweet soul.Â
