Gracie was the heart our program and senior trainer's soul mate! In March of 2016 we were struggling with physical therapy for our senior trainer and still working through the loss of our Golden Retriever, Lady. It was at this time, we felt that we were ready to take on a new member of the family. We had visited many places including local shelters but nothing felt right. Feeling deflated, we decided to head to our local mall to simply walk and talk, there is where we saw Gracie. She was a registered Mantle Great Dane puppy who we knew was the perfect fit that we had been looking for. We immediately named her and brought her home. We knew very little about Great Danes but Gracie was about to teach us. We learned from each other. We quickly joined online Dane support groups and begin to consider the possibility that Gracie could be a candidate to become an epilepsy service dog. She was not only a fabulous listener but she was amazing with every person she came in contact with. She flew through her early basic obedience training and took to service dog training with much the same abandonment. She was also born with the unique ability to detect seizures and even get assistance as well. It didn't take long for others to see her capabilities and began to ask, if we could train other dogs to do what she does. These early days for Gracie and our loss of our beloved Lady inspired what we do today at TBI Seizure Alert and Recovery GIANTS! Gracie was not only a fully trained and working service dog but she also participated in RALLY training and competition with other Great Danes. This gave Gracie the kind of outlet she needs when she wasn't working or training new service dogs. Sadly, on May 10th at the age of nearly 9.5 years of age, Gracie crossed the rainbow bridge to meet the arms of her best friend, Alexander. She will be missed dearly but her ability to train other dogs has left a legacy on every dog that has entered our program.
