Brie's Story starts with a Facebook post, phone call and email...all on Father's Day, 2021. Brie was in a small town in West Texas. We were told she was 10 weeks but we found out later with our vet she was actually closer to 7 weeks. We suspected so when we rescued her from Texas law enforcement as she as so small. She was covered in fleas and ticks and we had so many concerns for her. She was removed by law enforcement for neglect at 5 weeks of age. Brie was going to have a long road to getting to her to where she needed to be healthy. We were lucky to have our vet clear her schedule the next morning to see Brie. The good news was that she looked in good health with the exception of a nick on her nose and she was underweight. We knew we could fix that. We could still had to wait for some tests to come back. That was agony. She did however come back heartworm negative and other tests looked good as well. Brie was not able to eat puppy food at first because she was so young, so she received a diet of goats milk and puppy mush. She still wasn't out of the woods, she was weighted in everyday to make sure she was gaining weight and not losing it. Brie became a popular girl around the vet's office. By 9 weeks, she was getting her first shots and had already had the beginning rounds of deworming and all the other good puppy preventatives. This along with some warm baths, lots of cute puppy tees and favorite things to cuddle with including our Dane, Gracie. Brie was on the road to success! Brie is now 3 years old and is learning so much about becoming a fantastic service dog. She has done well in obedience and is mastering public access. She is on her way to becoming a great mobility dog! She continues to do a lot of leash training, public access and more advanced obedience including canine good citizen. Brie has currently had a set back in that she has an ACL that needs to be repaired and Kansas State University will be the ones to do it. She will take some much needed time off before she returns to training and working as a service dog. Her favorite places to go are the chiropractor and the Dairy Queen. Can't wait to see what Brie accomplishes next!Â
