Ford is a Pyrador (Pyrenees and Labrador) and came to us in the middle of pandemic. He is a very special addition to our family here at TBI Seizure Alert and Recovery GIANTS. Ford was born in May 2019. He was born to what we hope we never see as trainers and as handlers of our dogs. He was born into a place in Texas that was involved in "hording". He and the nearly 50 dogs that were rescued were in desperate need of medical help and rehabilitation from experienced rescues, fosters and those who specialize in assisting with Great Pyrenees and their special needs. Ford was missing fur, was desperately underweight and was needing a family who could care for him nearly round the clock. We are lucky to be able to have the experience to bring Ford back to health and provide him with the necessary physical and emotional care he needed. We never solicit donations but it was the donations in our community that helped to offset his veterinarian costs. We had ambitious goals for Ford. We at TBI, wanted to change the early life Ford was given and create opportunities through good health and training to guide him through the process of becoming a service dog for a person who suffer from traumatic brain injury and need the gentle love and understanding we see in Ford's eyes. He remained at the training ranch for longer than our regular training time because of his difficult beginning. He got him up to his proper weight and a healthy coat. We well socialized, exposed an public access trained him. He is a gentle soul and we see Ford like the motto of our Great State of Kansas: Ad Astra Per Aspera, Latin for "To The Stars Through Difficulty". Ford has been one our rising star and we know his light will continue to shine bright. Update: Ford was trained as a seizure alert and mobility dog and lives with his handler in California. He works alongside her in a major musuem in Southern California. He just turned 6 and is in great shape. His favorite places are the local park, the beach and Knott's Berry Farm.Â
