Professor Russell Cowburn FRS

(Cavendish Laboratory, University of Cambridge)

Professor Cowburn is a Christian and Experimental Physicist studying the properties of very small particles (nanoscience) and the applications of this knowledge (nanotechnology). In his talk he will describe what nanotechnology is and how it is offering possible solutions to climate change, water scarcity and growing healthcare needs. Nanoscience also sheds new light on the possible origins of life and our understanding of what it means to be human?

Should faith communities embrace nanotechnology as a force for good, bringing relief to people in need, or is it a threat with risks of environmental damage and expalnations to rival creation stories of the origin of life. How might we begin to answer questions such as ‘what does God think about nanotechnology?
