Professor Sarah Coakley

(Cambridge University)

8th May 2014

7:00 - 8.30 pm

The Nave, Norwich Cathedral, NR1 4EH

We know that nature is "red in tooth and claw” but humans have evolved as social animals. Professor Coakley argues that cooperative behaviour (not just competition) has shaped our evolution and provides a basis for goodness in human society, but our appreciation of saintliness points beyond the purely natural.

Sarah Coakley previously worked at Harvard University with evolutionary biologist Martin Nowak. She is the first female holder of the Norris Hulse Chair in Divinity at Cambridge University and has been a Gifford lecturer, one of the most prestigious honours bestowed by the Scottish Universities.

All are welcome to this open lecture; no booking is required.
