Nick Spencer

(Senior Fellow at Theos)

12th Annual Science-Faith Lecture

Tuesday 21st September 19:00 – 20:30

Norwich Cathedral

All are welcome – of all faiths and none.

In late summer the nave of Norwich Cathedral will be dominated by the huge skeleton of a dinosaur. This is just one, extremely large, example of the hundreds of thousands of fossils that chronicle the biological history of Earth and the evolution of life over millions of years. This is a unique opportunity to explore the history of ideas linking dinosaurs, evolution and religion from the time of Charles Darwin up to the present day.

Nick Spencer is a distinguished theologian and historian of science who is well qualified to review and comment on "Dinosaurs, evolution and religion". He recently presented three programmes on BBC Radio 4 entitled "The Secret History of Science and Religion". He has authored a number of books, including "Rescuing Darwin - God and Evolution in Britain Today" (2009).

Nick is a Fellow of the International Society for Science and Religion and is currently completing a doctorate at Cambridge University exploring the boundaries and interfaces between 'science' and 'religion'. He is Senior Fellow at Theos, a London-based think tank for the study of the interactions between religion and society. He works on Christianity in public life, focusing on political theology, and the history of ideas over the last few centuries. He has a particular interest in evolving ideas about human personhood, and how they have been informed by recent advances in science and theology.

This is the twelfth annual Science-Faith Cathedral Lecture organised by Science and Faith in Norfolk (SFN), a Norwich-based group that exists to explore a wide range of contemporary scientific issues from a Christian perspective.
