The 2nd International Symposium on Conservation and Management of Tropical Lakes

Siem Reap, Cambodia August 24th – 26th, 2017

INVITATION

We are pleased to announce that the 2nd International Symposium on Conservation and Management of Tropical Lakes will be held in Siem Reap, Cambodia, from August 24th to 26th, 2017. This symposium is jointly organized by Tokyo Institute of Technology (TokyoTech, Japan), Institute of Technology of Cambodia (ITC, Cambodia), Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES, Japan), Yamagata University (Japan), Royal University of Phnom Penh (RUPP, Cambodia), Tonle Sap Authority (TSA, Cambodia), and the Ministry of Environment (MOE, Cambodia). Following the success of the 1 st International Symposium on Conservation and Management of Tropical Lakes initiated by Tonle Sap Water Environmental Platform (TSWEP) that was held in Phnom Penh in 2016, this year’s symposium will continue to provide a forum for various researchers, scientists, policy makers, NGOs and students to share their latest research findings, ideas, developments, and applications in a common effort to promote environmental conservation and appropriate management of tropical lakes around the world. Lakes are not only a source of water and livelihood for many populations but also contribute a large proportion of our biodiversity. A primary example of this is the Tonle Sap lake in Cambodia. Therefore, understanding the lake environment, whilst taking into account the effects of anthropogenic pressures and the impacts of climate change, is substantial for the better management and conservation of the lake resource for the future generations. This symposium will be a venue for participants to have chance of interaction and exchange of ideas on how we could better protect and conserve our precious world’s lakes environment through relevant and engaging oral and poster presentations. At the end of the symposium, participants will have an opportunity to join an interesting excursion within the historical city of Siem Reap. We hope that many strong networks and partnerships will be established through the symposium.

On behalf of the Organizing Committee,

Dr. Hul Seingheng

Institute of Technology of Cambodia
