Satreps Workshop Series - 7

Biological Assessment of Water Quality

Date: 15 March 2018, Thu., 10:00 – 12:00

Venue: Room A109, Institute of Technology of Cambodia

Facilitator: Prof. Yasunori Tanji (WG4), Tokyo Institute of Technology

Contact: ytanji@bio.titech.ac.jp

Outline: Biological assessment of water quality in a lake and river is growing concern. Approaches to water quality assessment include assessment of pathogen and antibiotic resistant bacteria. For assessment diverse organisms such as bacteria, virus, and algae are used. Recent developments in the use of new generation DNA sequencer for predicting biological water quality are likely to be useful. The main goal is to assess water quality through an integrated manner.

In this workshop items below will be intensively discussed to achieve this goal;

1. Quantification and identification of bacteria

2. Biofilm and bioflock

3. Wastewater treatment

4. Appearance of antibiotic resistant strains and its control by bacteriophage
