Charlotte NC Boy Scout Antique Mall Booth A Destination

posted May 28, 2017, 5:59 AM by Jason Spangler Santeeswapper

As a business owner when you get an unsolicited message from a happy customer it's a good day.  This one came in on my Facebook Page and put a big smile on my face.  Mostly because what he describes is exactly what I hope I've created in my booth.  A destination spot that is tempting enough for Scouting collectors to pull off the Interstate when they are traveling through Charlotte to come check it out.  Thank you J. Durkin!

"Evening Jason. We were passing thru Charlotte today on our way south and stopped at the booth at Sleepy Poet Antique Mall. Very cool display!! My Scout son and I dug thru the #1.00 bin. He was soo hoping to find something from our Council. And we geeked out over some of the other items you have there. The bugle was beautiful. Ended up w another Scout book and like 6 patches. I collect SM ones and he found a couple too. We are from Ohio, Buckeye Council, and I have purchased/won items from you before on eBay. Just wanted to say thanks and that we enjoyed the store. Have a great weekend" posted on Scouting Hot Finds Newsletter Facebook Page on May 28, 2017

New Logo Welcomes The New Store

posted Mar 13, 2017, 8:19 AM by Jason Spangler Santeeswapper

I turned to my reliable graphic artist Todd to refresh the logo for the Santeeswapper Store.  He is the one who designed the original logo and he was very quick to update this new logo with all the pertinent details.  I've sent it off to have a vinyl banner made and business cards so I can promote the booth.

Open For Business!

After renting a 20' Uhaul truck and rounding up all the inventory in Florence, SC and Lumberton, NC I am now open for business in Charlotte NC at The Sleepy Poet.  My booth officially opened on March 2, 2017 with the sale of some framed prints and of all things a Campfire Girl dress.  The booth features over a hundred Boy Scout uniforms including Cub Scout, Boy Scout, Explorers, including the modern tan shirts.  I also have a fair amount of stuff for the ladies including Campfire Girls and Girl Scouts.  An entire wall in the booth is filled with hundreds of handbooks, Scout fiction titles, merit badge books etc.  This booth has lots of wall space to fit framed prints and posters.  However, the most popular item in the booth is the "Almost World Famous $1 Patch Box".  I keep this loaded with lots of goodies that I don't have the time to list on eBay.

Changes Are Coming - Moving to the Queen City

In the summer of 2016 my family moved to Charlotte NC taking me away Southeastern North Carolina where I had lived for going on 18 years.  In moving I decided I would leave my two antique mall booths since they were firmly established and I didn't really have anyplace to put all that inventory!  Well the truth is you can't really run an antique mall business if you walk away from your booth and don't manage the store.  Sure the folks at the show will handle the day to day sales but you'd be surprised how quickly people browsing in your store can mess things up and before long it looks like a tornado came through.

So this week I have a meeting with an antique mall owner here in Charlotte to see about consolidating my inventory down to one location.  The rent is going to run a little bit more (even with the 2 combined stores) but going forward if I'm going to keep an antique mall booth this is probably the smart move.  I don't have anything confirmed just yet so I won't go out on a limb with details but suffice to say it's percolating and maybe by the end of February 2017 I'll have it all worked out.

Girl Scout Uniforms

I've now stocked both booths with some Girl Scout uniforms.  Check out these pictures of an awesome Girl Scout uniform history display that was exhibited at a recent show in North Carolina.

Over the Memorial Day Weekend I was able to spend about 8 hours working my booth in Florence, SC.  Among the things that are new are several boxes of insignia patches, leather Scout belts, over 40 t-shirts, jackets, some merit badge books and a tub full of $5 merit badge sashes.  Palmetto Peddlers is open 7 days/week and is located at 2295 Hoffmeyer Road in Florence, SC.

If a picture tells a thousand words then what do they say about videos?  This video was published to show folks what is stocked in the booth at Somewhere In Time Antiques in Lumberton, NC.  I've recently expanded the booth almost doubling the space.  This expansion allowed me to add another uniform rack and much more 3-D Scout items.  The store is open 7 days/week and is located at 4420 Kahn Drive in Lumberton, NC.

I opened my antique mall booth in Florence, SC at Palmetto Peddlers in January of 2015.  During the entire experience I've documented the journey and in this video I share the details.  I hope you can come visit the booth inside the big antique mall on Hoffmeyer Road which is just off Interstate 95 in Florence, SC.
