About Reptile Events

We came upon reptiles almost by accident, but quickly came to realise how fascinating and varied they are.

In the late 2000's we became involved with a local reptile rescue centre and, as volunteers, were asked to take on their public-facing role, running their open handlings, visiting youth groups and hosting birthday parties. In the summer of 2010 the owner decided to reduce their public events, but we enjoyed these activities so much that we decided to carry on in our own right. Through contacts made at the various events we attend we have taken on the role of a private reptile rescue centre, either using the reptiles we take in for educational purposes or finding them suitable homes with experienced handlers.

We see our role in the following terms:

• To present the public with the opportunity to meet reptiles in a safe environment, and dispel myths and misconceptions;
• To help people overcome phobias;
• To educate both on the animals themselves, their natural environment and adaptations, and their requirements and care as pets;
• To act as a "rescue" for reptiles whose owners are unable to continue looking after them.
