HVD ( Holographic Versetile disk )
Holographic Versetile Disk
HVD ( Holographic Versetile disk ) 300GB >>>1,6TB
Information beam and reference beam create an interference pattern ; called array or page, several page forms a book. Each page can hold more then one million bits depending on the resolution of the SLM (Spatial Light Modulator) also called DMD (Digital Micromirror Device) .
With one light puls there can be written million bits parallel at one time, who makes this technique much more faster then the existing linear burning technique.
The first holographic drives will have a transfer rate of 160Mbiz or 20MByz who is more then 4 times faster then blu-ray with 36Mbiz.
For the moment transfer rate of 1Gbiz and 300 GB storage
In the future 1Gbiz transfer rate and capacity of 1,6 and 3,9TB is expected .
It is also the laser who moves and not the disk (only when he must change from position). The holographic disk can also be rectangular and it is possible to bring it in credit card format.
For the consumer are expected for 2010.
For this moment only holographic worm disks (write once, read many) .
They are working on rewritable versions also.
1) green or blue laser for read/write
2) Rode 650nm laser for positioning
3) Hologram for holding data
4) Polycarbon layer (plastic)
5) photopolymer containing data
6) Intermedian layer
7) Dichronic layer reflecting green/blue light
8) Alu layer reflecting red light
9) Transparent layer
